Welcome to the ‘Textiles and Seals’ database. This OPEN ACCESS database was scheduled as part of the Textiles and Seals project in order to provide a specialist tool for handling and searching numerous data of different natures, characteristics and features. The database was built by the services of the Digital Competence Centre of the University of Warsaw.

The database comprises three modules reflecting the main types of the investigated evidence which can be searched by the following engines:

Seal-impressed and marked textile tools (Seal-impressed textile tools module)

Imprints of textiles and organic products impressed on the undersides of clay sealings (Impressions of textiles on clay module)

Textile production-related motifs in seal imagery, e.g. motifs referring to raw materials, textile tools, textile workers and textile manufacturing, and symbolic references, such as a motif of spider (Iconography of textile production module)

Please note that this database is currently being developed as part of the project ExplorTIC: ‘Exploring Textile Imprints on Clay from the 3rd and the 2nd Millennia BCE: Advancing Cutting-Edge Research and Documentation Protocols with Case Studies of Diverse Textile Consumption Contexts’ (SONATA BIS 13 grant scheme of the National Science Centre Poland, UMO-2023/50/E/HS3/00094, 2024–2027).
